Bikaner is one of two models of biplane used by the British during World War I. They were presented by the British to the then ruler of the city, Maharaja Ganga Singh. Another unique feature of Bikaner is the sand dunes that dot the entire district, especially from the northeast to the south. Bikaner is located in the northern part of Rajasthan. One of his early founded cities, Bikaner still displays ancient opulence with red sandstone palaces and forts that have survived the passage of time. The city has some of the best camel riding in the world, earning it the nickname 'Camel Country'. It is also home to one of the world's largest camel research and breeding farms. It is also known for its own temple dedicated to Desnok's Karni Mata called Rat Temple.
Until the mid-15th century, the area of present-day Bikaner was a barren wilderness called Jangladesh. Rao bika was the man who founded the city Bikaner in 1488. He was the eldest son of Rao Jodha, the maharaja of the Rathore clan, the founder of Jodhpur, who conquered the largely arid lands of northern Rajasthan. As Jodha's eldest son, he had his own kingdom and did not want to inherit Jodhpur or inherit the title of Maharajah from his father. As such, he decided to establish his own kingdom in the current state of Bikaner in the Jangladesh region. Despite being in the Thar Desert, Bikaner was considered an oasis on trade routes between Central Asia and the Gujarat coast due to its abundant spring water. Bika's name was associated with the city he built and the state of Bikaner ("Bika Settlement") he founded. Bika he built a fort in 1478, now in ruins, and 100 years later a new fort known as Junagarh Fort, which was built about 1.5 km away from the town center. About a century after Rao bika founded Bikaner, the country flourished under his sixth Raja, Rai Singhji, who ruled from 1571 until 1611. During Mughal rule in the country, Raja Rai Singh accepted Mughal suzerainty and held a high position as an army general in the courts of Emperor Akbar and his son Emperor Jahangir. Rai Singh's successful military exploits consisted of taking over half of the Mewar kingdom to victory for the empire, earning him decorations and rewards from the Mughal emperor. He was given the jagir (land) of Gujarat and Burhanpur. Earning a large income from these jagirs, he built the Chintamani Durg (Junagarh Fort) on a plain with an average height of 230 meters. He was an expert in arts and architecture, and the knowledge he acquired during his visits abroad is amply reflected in the numerous monuments he built at the Junagarh fort.
Despite being a vibrant desert city with great scenery and culture, the best time to visit Bikaner is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant and cool, suitable for sightseeing. The summer months, on the other hand, are deplorably hot with temperatures reaching 42°C, but dropping to at least 28°C at night. The city's monsoon season lasts from he July to September, with little to no precipitation, resulting in even higher humidity, with temperatures varying between 30 and 40 degrees, thus not being conducive to the tourist season.

When most of us think of the city of Bikaner in Rajasthan, we think of sand dunes, camel safari, Junagarh Fort and Karni Mata Mandir. But shopaholics want to associate Bikaner with a wide variety of things and a multitude of markets - a shopper's paradise. Here are some of the things you should bring with you when you return from this beautiful destination (and where you can buy them):
Bikaner is the center of Kundan jewelery, both original and man-made. With the advent of globalization, technology and the internet, you can buy almost anything and shop online almost anywhere, but be aware that Kundan jewelery is only made in Bikaner. The designs are handcrafted and tempting again and again. However, his original Kundan jewelry is made from his 24K gold. Buying the original leaves a huge hole in your pocket. But artificial kundan jewelry, which is a fraction of the real thing, is just as beautiful as the real thing. Don't miss Kundan her jewelry when you visit Bikaner.
If you have jewelry, you should have one (or many!) desi outfits to rock your Indian look. Visit Bikaner for a wide variety of sarees and lehengas. Among the more famous types of sarees is her Lehriya, which is vibrant and light-weighted and perfect for parties. Other names are Bandhani, Sanganeriya and Gharchola. If you want a royal look in a lightweight, easy-to-wear saree, the gharchora is the way to go. The golden lines that crisscross the entire design help you achieve that queenly look with ease!
No visit to a place is complete until you taste the local cuisine and food. You can have Rajasthani food in any town in Rajasthan, but Bikaner is especially famous for Bikaneri Bhujia. A crispy and delicious snack is made from ground moth lentils found only in the desert areas of Bikaner and Jodhpur, not in Besan like most other regions, giving this snack a delicious taste and longevity. This bhujia will be the most demanding snacks and ofcourse it should also be on your listed on the top of food List.
